Teachers trained within the framework of the CODICIS project financed by the European Union

They conclude the training at the San Pablo Catholic University of Arequipa

Thanks to financing from the European Union, through the program ERASMUS, the  San Pablo Catholic University (UCSP) carried out the specialization course in library and archive conservation in Arequipa, where personnel from the UCSP by a staff of European teachers highly specialized in the subject.

The training he received was carried out from September 2022 to January of this year, obtaining the training program in the Saint Paul Catholic University nine graduates who in the coming months will train librarians and archivists of Arequipa.

The graduation ceremony It began in the facilities of the Victor Andrés Belaunde Library; which was attended by Rector of the UCSP, the Director of Research, the Coordinator of the CODICIS project and the Head of the UCSP Library.

During the beginning of the ceremony the Mg. Pamela Cabala, project coordinator CODICES , highlighted the importance of the project to preserve the library material and heritage archives of the city. He also offered words of posthumous tribute to Dr. Eusebio Quiroz, emeritus professor who in August 2022 donated his library.

“The CODICIS project is concerned with the protection of heritage and culture, which helps us understand our identity as Peruvians. "The training time has been hard work, now our graduates have the task of training librarians and archivists," stated Mg. Cabala.

During the ceremony, the authorities congratulated the graduates of the training course and recognized the efforts of those in charge of the project.

Dr. Alonso Quintanilla, rector of UCSP, was in charge of directing the final words of the event, and he highlighted the importance of the project that “it makes us come back into contact with books from another perspective, a scientific and poetic perspective.” which today is provided to us by the CODICIS project” he referred.

He also added that what the training course has done is confirm the affection and love for books.

He also expressed that CODICES It is the largest project financed by the European Union through its Erasmus program, which is managed by the university; Therefore, it is essential to have a course that bears fruit and that has visibility in the midst of our university together with the grouped universities, thus demonstrating the responsibility that the UCSP facing this project.

The second part of this project includes the implementation of a conservation and restoration laboratory among the affiliated universities, these laboratories will allow the training in conservation and management of documentary cultural heritage. The project is important for our region because there is heritage to rescue and care for throughout our country. The knowledge acquired will be multiplied and replicated throughout the country.
