On May 18 and 19, 2022, the Colloquium was held in the city of Puebla, Mexico.\u00a0New Trends in Heritage Document Collection Management<\/strong>\u00a0organized by the Jos\u00e9 Mar\u00eda Lafragua Historical Library of the Benem\u00e9rita Universidad Aut\u00f3noma de Puebla and the Department of Library Science, Documentation and Audiovisual Communication of the University of Barcelona. The event was held in a hybrid way, with an in-person audience in the reading room of the Lafragua Library and with an online audience, in real time through the virtual conference platform Zoom and also through live broadcast on the YouTube channel of library. The topics addressed together with the speakers attracted people from various Latin American countries.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0first part of the colloquium<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0It began with a brief description of the CODICIS project, led by Dr. Francisco Rizo Patr\u00f3n from the Catholic University of San Pablo (Peru). Next, teacher Mercedes I. Salom\u00f3n Salazar, Director of the Jos\u00e9 Mar\u00eda Lafragua Historical Library, gave an introduction to the topics that would be addressed over the two days of the event. Following which, a very fruitful dialogue was opened with people who have had interesting experiences as managers of heritage documentary collections, each one different, but who contributed to the public understanding of the great challenge we have in Mexico to keep many documentary collections alive. , many of them sustained by intense altruistic work.<\/p>\n

The following participated in this table: Rom\u00e1n Moreno Soto, Coordinator of the Documentation Center of the National Center for the Preservation of Railway Cultural Heritage; Alejandro Serrano N\u00fa\u00f1ez from the Library of the Congregation of the Oratory of San Felipe Neri; Belem Oviedo G\u00e1mez, Director of the Historical Archive and Mining Museum, AC<\/p>\n

The first day closed with the keynote speech of the Dr. Carina Rey<\/strong>, Professor of the Department of Library Science, Documentation and Audiovisual Communication of the University of Barcelona where she addressed precisely the topic of new trends in management of documentary collections with heritage value.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

The\u00a0second part of the Colloquium<\/strong><\/a> (May 19) began with the keynote address by Dr. Gl\u00f2ria P\u00e9rez-Salmer\u00f3n, president of the Stichting Global Libraries Foundation as well as Honorary Member and President of IFLA (2017-2019). She presented the topic \u201cLibraries, librarians and social commitment\u201d, leading the audience to an important reflection on the work of heritage collections to support the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations.<\/p>\n

The conference \u201cComparative analysis of the legislation on heritage protection in three countries: Mexico, Bolivia and Peru\u201d was then presented, which was led by Edgar Iv\u00e1n Mondrag\u00f3n Aguilera and Christian S\u00e1nchez Pozos, responsible, respectively, for Projects and Cataloging of the Lafragua Library. With this intervention, part of the results of the work carried out during the first year of work of the CODICIS project were presented. Several library colleagues supported by providing valuable information to be able to create a State of the Art not only in terms of legislation, but also in terms of training and training of staff, conservation, restoration, digitization, cataloging and classification.<\/p>\n

The event concluded with the second intervention by Dr. Carina Rey, where she addressed the topic:\u00a0\u201cA look at the values of the library\u201d<\/strong> through which he shared with the audience many marketing and branding strategies to improve the positioning of archives and libraries. Very interesting was the reflection he raised regarding managers and senior officials being present at these types of events to better understand and support the needs, goals and mission of the institutions that are under their management at a higher level.<\/p>\n
