La Panamericana supports the conservation of Latin American heritage

ZAPOPAN, Jalisco; September 1, 2022.- The University panameric Campus Guadalajara received renowned professors from universities of BoliviaPeruMexicoSpain and Italy, within the framework of the project called CODICES. Said project, search strengthen the capacities for the recovery and conservation of the documentary and bibliographic heritage of Latin America.

This supports the search for the training of personnel related to the conservation and management of archives and heritage libraries, through the design and execution of a specialization course.

Likewise, the implementation of laboratories specialized in the conservation and enhancement of heritage documents and books. The project is financed by the European Union through the program Erasmus+. Currently, the project is designed to satisfy the pedagogical and academic needs of PeruBolivia and Mexico.

First Stage: WP1

The process takes place in 9 stages, each of them is directed by a university. The Universidad Panamericana was responsible for the first stage of work, called WP1.

At this stage, the methodological basespedagogical and academic for training in the conservation and management of documentary cultural heritage. In this way, the methodological framework for the diagnosis was defined, a comparative analysis of the existing situation in the archives and libraries with heritage collections from Peru, Bolivia and Mexico was carried out, and the good practices of the IES in the EU in some Virtual Conferences.

Documentary and bibliographic heritage

To conclude with this work table, the University panameric is a proud creditor of the organization of the Regional Symposium “Documentary and bibliographic heritage: sources and research techniques” in which various sources for heritage studies were addressed, hand in hand with the conservation practices and preservation of European higher education institutions along with regional practices.

On the first day of the symposium they addressed topics such as “Sources for heritage studies in libraries”“Sources for heritage studies in Archives” and finally “Patrimonial and personal sources of biographical research”.

On the second day the following topics were discussed: “The Memory of the World Program and documentary heritage”“Digitization of files and documents”“Preservation of historical ecclesiastical archives” and closed with “Conservation and restoration of the archive of the Public Library of the State of Jalisco”. To conclude the event, a discussion was held to highlight regional experiences regarding archival science and library science in the region.

In this way, the Pan American University, in collaboration with renowned universities around the world, seeks to raise awareness and form a commitment to the heritage of Latin America, by seeking evaluation and advice on its care.
